Guanajuato is a colorful colonial city in the mountains of central Mexico. It was once a silver mining town and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was also the site of the first battle of the Mexican War of Independence between insurgent and royalist troops at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas.
